Beautifully Feminine: The 12 Wonderful Characteristics of Biblical Femininity

Biblical homemaker

Ladies! This post is really for you and it’s one of the harder ones for me to write, because I know a lot of women stray far away from Biblical Femininity.

Biblical femininity is so far from what today’s standards of femininity is. Which is why I think the world attacks femininity so hard.

The 12 characteristics of femininity will help us take up our mantle as women.

Biblical Femininity

Femininity is seen as weakness. People start telling us at a young age that being feminine means being a girly girl and that it’s weak. We are taught to take up a masculine mantle where we are providers, strong, tough, a warrior.

Which, we are all those things, but, and here is the but, we have taken up the position the Bible says men are supposed to take up. Alternatively, we have forsaken everything the Bible says we are to be or have twisted it to fit our idea of the strong independent woman.

Modern Feminism Lied

But I believe modern feminism has a big hand in this. Modern feminism is a lie and an attack of femininity, masculinity, and the family.

It is the daughters of Eve taking up their curse and embracing it. I’m not talking about the child birth part, I’m talking about the part of wanting to rule over our husbands.

Genesis 3:16

Unto the woman He said, “Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

I went ahead and bolded that area.

But since femininity has been so skewed and twisted, what is biblical femininity? Also, what are biblical characteristics homemakers, and all women, should posses?

What Is Biblical Femininity?

So the definition of biblical femininity is easy. It is the biblical characteristics God gave women to live by to show the more tender and nurturing side of Himself.

Characteristics of Biblical Femininity All Women Should Possess

These characteristics are what the Bible says women should possess.

What are these characteristics?

1. Strength

Women are to be strong, but not in the sense women try to be strong nowadays. She will do all things required of her with joy may it be spiritual or physical.

Proverbs 31:17

She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

2. Helper

She is a helper of her husband or Ezer Kenegdo, meaning helper or help meet. This phrase is used for woman in the Bible, and the only other places you will find it is when people are desperately in need of God.

Genesis 2:18

And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

3. Submissive

This one women really struggle with. Submissiveness does not mean you’re a doormat to be abused. It means you aren’t prideful and willing to listen, learn, and respect. You are meant to be submissive to God and your husband. It is a joyful response to God and your husband’s leadership and letting them lead you.

Ephesians 5:22-24

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body.

Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

4. A Follower Of Christ

She is not only a believer of Christ, but a follower as well. She lives a life that shows others Christ in her whether it is the way she behaves or her works.

Deuteronomy 6:7

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

5. A Woman

There is no androgyny or confusion in the Bible. Men are made in God’s image and mirror a different part of Him just as women. We all have our own roles and responsibilities. We were made differently.

Genesis 2:21-23

…The Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

Be kind, not nice, there is a huge difference.

6. Kind

She is kind. Let me specify, she is kind not nice. Nice is what you want to hear, and kind is a loving way of saying what you need to hear. She only speaks words of wisdom and kindness.

Proverbs 31:26

She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

7. Homemaker

We are called to be homemakers. A woman’s influence is often here, where she runs a Godly home. And where she raises her kids, and takes care of her husband. Because she is called to be a homemaker, most of her work will come out of the home.

Titus 2:5

To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

Also Proverbs 31.

8. Mother

If God blesses her, she is a mother. Even if you don’t have children of your own, you are to still teach children and other women to walk in the faith.

Genesis 1:27-28

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

9. Mentor

Ladies! We are meant to teach and disciple other women. And this means helping young women learn how to walk in faith so that they can help guide their families and train other young women.

Titus 2:3-5

The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

Women are not only meant to be homemakers, but find ways to supplement our husband’s income.

10. Entrepreneur

She is creative and finds ways to support her family with supplemental income. This doesn’t always been working 24/7, because her place is still in the home.

Proverbs 31.

11. Beautiful

A woman is beautiful and we are most beautiful at rest, not chaotic, angry, and loud. We are to be quiet and gentle which is precious in God’s sight.

1 Peter 3:3-4

Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

12. Trustworthy

And last but not least, she is trustworthy! She is trustworthy to God, her husband, children, and to the body of Christ.

Proverbs 31:11

The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

Femininity Makes Us Strong, Not Weak

Femininity does not breed weakness, but strength that can only come from God.

Being feminine makes us strong not weak. Being kind, and gentle, and taking care of your family and community isn’t weak. Working hard and serving God is not weak.

These are what make women beautiful and things we have forgotten and have not been taught, and it is a shame. I have seen men grow in God and take up their mantles after seeing their lives demonstrate these characteristics. My husband is one of them.

I promise you, that walking in God and taking up your feminine mantle, will change your life. And this isn’t just for some women, but all of us. I was lost and angry and depressed and until I picked up my cross and learned and embraced Biblical femininity I had no peace.

And I’ve seen it change the lives of other women. Ladies, it is time to take up our mantles! Things are getting rough, evil is spreading quickly, take up your mantle and guide your family and protect your home and most importantly serve God whole-heartedly with all things you do and say.
