Want to know how to start your day with God? Many of us start our day in a rush. We get in a routine. Wake the kids up, shower, get ready, make breakfast, get on the run. We often overlook God and if we do think of Him we say a quick prayer and maybe read a devotional. Which isn’t bad, but it isn’t spending intentional time with God. So, let’s learn how to start your day with God.

Learn how to start your day with God everyday!

How To Start Your Day With God

I’m guilty of not always spending time with God. There are times I say a rushed prayer or sometimes I forget. Sometimes I read a chapter of the Bible, and sometimes I forget. And there are also times when I read that chapter and I retain nothing, because I did not pray beforehand.

And then we wonder why our day is going badly, why we are frazzled, alone, upset, etc. We have to start spending intentional time with God if we want to see our lives, our family’s lives, and our world change. We are called prayer warriors for a reason.

Plus, when we stop praying and reading the Bible we tend to fall into the traps of the world. We start trying to carry all the burdens alone and fall into the prison cells of sin. So, let’s learn how to start your day with God so you can start off on the right foot!

Want To Know How To Start Your Day With God? Here Are Some Great Ways To Start Your Morning Routine With God…

Okay, so we will be breaking down everything from listening to God, prayer, praise, and Bible verses, so let’s get to it and learn how to start your day with God!

Get up and pray each day! Even if you have to wake up early.

1. Wake Up Early And Pray

Get up a little earlier so you have time to be intentional with God. We don’t want to be in a rush. So, set your alarm as early as you need it to make time with God. And once it goes off, get up, and get on your knees.

Humble yourself before God and pray. I generally start my prayers with asking for forgiveness, and then giving thanks for God for the day He has graced me with and for my family and all He has given me. Then I pray that He helps me see the world and sin the way He sees it. That He helps me love the way He loves. I pray that He helps me keep all thoughts, actions, and words captive so people can see Him in me and I put on the armor of God. If there is anything else I need to pray for I will pray especially if I’m scared or nervous about something that day. I also pray for wisdom and understanding before I dive into His word.

Sometimes I don’t really pray, but just talk to God like I would an old friend. God wants a relationship with you and no one wants a relationship where they are neglected and not spoken to.

Get in the mood for God! Sing, praise, worship, and lift your hands to God!

2. Praise, Sing, Live Up Your Hands

Praising and singing is one way I feel closest to God. Something about singing your heart out, tears streaming, lifting your hands up for your Father like a child reaching for their parent really leaves you vulnerable, humble, and open to God.

Not all Christian songs are the same. Find some that talk about God’s wonder and not so much I, I, I. Make up a song and sing to God and His greatness. Dance a jig! Play an instrument. But do it for God. Give God you best. He deserves it.

Be silence in the presence of God.

3. Be Silent And Be In The Presence Of God

This is something I actually struggle with. So, while you’re learning how to start your day with God, don’t feel bad, I am learning too. But our days are noisy. People talking, kids fighting, school, work, cleaning, dogs, shopping, errands, bills, wars, social media, phones, TVs, etc… No wonder many of us cannot hear the voice of God. We don’t let Him speak with us. We talk talk talk, but we never listen.

Take time to sit and breathe. Clear your mind and just be in the presence of God. You may not always feel Him, but He is always there. Maybe you feel peace and quiet, maybe a Bible verse comes to mind, maybe a solution to something you’ve been struggling with comes to mind. Or maybe you sit in silence. Either way it is okay, and gives God a chance to be with you intimately and He can speak with you without having to try to fight for your attention.

Take time and read your Bible!

4. Read Your Bible

Always pray before reading your Bible. Pray for wisdom, understanding, and ask God how you can use His word to better know Him and use it in your life. If I don’t pray beforehand I cannot focus on the Bible at all. We are at war with the flesh, and boy the flesh fights against God’s word. I’ll be reading and have to reread a million times because my mind is going every which way.

Also, it’s not a competition. You don’t have to try to read a whole book of the Bible at once. Read a chapter or a few. But really study them. Reread them, read them aloud until it is clear. Understanding is more important than the number of pages you read. If you’re not retaining information, it’s not intention. And while we are learning how to start our morning with God we are learning how to be intentional with God.

Reflect on what you read in the Bible.

5. Reflect On What You Read

Once you finished reading the Bible take time to reflect on what you read. I really like using a study guide or having a notebook on hand to write down what I learned. I write down the date, the verse, key points, and try to write what I think the verse means and ways I can use it in my life as well as any questions I may have about that particular verse.

That way I can pray about it, research it later, and discuss it later.

Discuss what you read in the Bible.

6. Discuss What You Read In The Bible

This is another way I start my day with God. While you are learning how to start your morning with God, it’s great to get others involve to not only teach them how to start their day with God, but to also grow as a believer.

Believers should be talking about the Bible and discussing and debating the Bible. Plus, God also uses others to bless or lead us as well.

This is something I had to learn to do. I am a bit of a loner and like to do things myself. At some point I eventually started inviting my husband to discuss this stuff with me. It gets him focused on God and it helps me understand things I might not have understood beforehand or misunderstood.

Do your Biblical affirmations everyday!

7. Start Your Day With Biblical Affirmations

So, I won’t lie, this one is hard for me. Want to learn how to start your day with God… this is one of the ways and it is often the hardest.

You may feel silly starting out. Or you may not feel worthy. You may even cry. I did. But this breaks doubt the doubts, lies, and strongholds of the enemy. God loves you and is your strength. You can do all things through Christ. Philippians 4:13.

This is actually one of my favorite affirmation videos that when I feel terrible, worthless, and like a failure that can leave me in tears and thankful to God again.
