Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year where we are thankful for all we have. And what better way to give thanks than to give thanks to God? Many times we get caught up in food, friends, family, and all the physical stuff we have on earth. Stuff is fun and pleasing, but we tend to forget to stop and say thank you to God.
Why Should We Give Thanks To God?
God created the heavens and the earth. He made day and night, land and water, the animals, and me and you. (Genesis) God made everything and life, and that in itself is a huge blessing. But life aside, stuff aside, what are some other reasons we should be thanking God?
More Reasons To Give Thanks To God
The Bible is full of reasons we should be giving thanks to God.
- Psalm 106:1– Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever.
- Thessalonians 5:18– …give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
- James 1:17– Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
- 1 Chronicles 16:34– Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good…
- Psalm 107:15– Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for mankind
- 1 Chronicles 16:8– Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples.
- Psalm 136:14– I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well.
- 1 Corinthians 15:57– …but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 2 Corinthians 2:14– But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.
God Is So Good, Loving, and Merciful
Do y’all understand how good God is? How loving and merciful He is? He gives us His love and mercy every single day, even when we sin and fall short. (Romans 3:23) You are never too far gone for God. He yearns for you even when you rebel against Him.
Did you know that when a sinner repents heaven is overjoyed?
Like 15:7
I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
Our Father, in heaven, and His angels celebrate when we stop sinning. How amazing is that love, that God is cheering you on?
Or the fact He did the greatest act of love, by sending His only Son here to die for our sins. (John 3:16, Matthew, Mark, Luke)
1 Peter 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…
God gave us, a people who is so far from being Holy, as shown in Leviticus, a chance to be with Him in everlasting life.

God Has A Good Plan For All Of Us
God intends to use all of us for His will and for good. That doesn’t mean we won’t suffer, that doesn’t mean we won’t struggle, but we will be used to lead others to Him. Which in itself is such a blessing, helping others finding a supernatural joy, peace, and love that they can’t get on this earth is amazing.
Who can stand against us, when God goes before us?
Hebrews 12:28-29
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptable with reverence and awe, for our ‘God is a consuming fire’..
God Deserves All Of Our Praise and Thanks
God has given all of us so much. And yes, you may not have everything someone else has, but you’re alive with a chance to do great things for the Lord. Believe in the Lord, trust in Him, and He will come through for you.
I’m so thankful for everything God has given me in my life. Even the hard things that I never thought I would make it through, because even those hard things shaped me into who I am today and has allowed me to learn to help others and love others in a way I wouldn’t be able to otherwise.
And if you’re having a having a hard time when it comes to giving thanks to God then write things down. Even if they’re small things, write them down.
The Garment Of Praise
Did you know giving thanks to God will help you overcome depression and anxiety? It will give you supernatural joy, even in hard times?
In Isaiah 61 it talks about it:
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
The garment of praise instead of the spirit of despair… how amazing is that? And these last few years have definitely given many of us despair. Cast of the spirit of despair and take up the garment of praise!
Give Thanks To God This Thanksgiving
Raise up your hands and give God praise and thanks. I’m so thankful for so much this year.
So give God thanks and praise with me:
Dear God,
We come before you humbly and lay our sins down before You and ask for forgiveness of all our sins and ask that You help us forgive those who have hurt us as well. Let us love them as You love them, Lord.
Today, I just want to give You thanks, Lord. I thank You for waking me up today, waking up my family, for the life You created, and continue to create. Thank you, for giving us another chance to live for You in a way that leads others to Your light.
The path may be narrow, but it’s a path worth walking. We thank You for Your everlasting love, your indescribable mercy, and supernatural peace and comfort.
Thank You for every blessing You have placed in our lives Lord, and we accept these blessings and gifts from Your hands with reverent hearts.
Thank You for one another, and everyone here with us, as we are about to enjoy this Thanksgiving. Thank You for this food and drink, both physically, and most importantly, spiritually.
We give You our praise today. You are a good, good God, beautiful, amazing, indescribably. We live for You and love You with all our heart and soul,
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
