Homemaking For God

Adventures of Biblical Homemaking and Drawing Closer to God.

Last week we wrote about emotional burnout and the anxiety and depression that comes with it. This week I want to talk about getting up on your feet one step at a time with this free printable weekly schedule. This printable weekly schedule is how I start getting my home and life in order again.

Let me preface this by saying, I understand depression and anxiety, I was diagnosed with both and struggled for years. And I understand that some people need a little extra help. This is coming from a place of love and experience for what works for me. If you feel you need extra help, reach out to a loved one, doctor, or counsellor!

Not Wanting A Weekly Schedule While Recovering From Burn Out

When I get emotionally burnt out or mentally tired, I want to be left alone. I want to be a couch potato and sleep. Which I give myself a few days to do just that. Sometimes we need to catch up on sleep and just breathe. However, my schedule gets completely messed up and then I want to keep not doing things. Printable weekly schedules go out the window during this time (metaphorically of course.)

I Do All Things, Including My Weekly Schedule For The Lord

And why would I? Just because I start doing better, doesn’t mean I’m 100% motivated to do all my weekly tasks. But I know that my family and friends rely on me. The thing is, I am the glue that holds things together. Plus, all things we do we are to be for God.

Colossians 3:23

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. 25 But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality.”

When I clean my house, make food, sew, work, or do anything I try to do my best because I am doing everything, even work, for the Lord, then my family.

Free Printable Weekly Schedule

So, I made this free printable weekly schedule to help me and hopefully it will help you too.

Hopefully this weekly calendar will also help you get on your feet. I created it to be visually appealing and pretty, but this free printable weekly task schedule was created with a purpose.

You see we need to rest still, but we need to do things. So the pink background, flowers, and vines aside, each day has 6 small lines. These lines are small and there are only 6, because that is enough to get something done without overdoing it.

A Weekly Schedule and A Cleaning Schedule

So, I made printable weekly schedules, 1 for cleaning and for other tasks. You can use which ever, or both. I use both. They each keep me organized and make me do just a little bit more. Let me explain though.

My Weekly Schedule

I had to start taking care of myself….again. I am terrible at remembering so my weekly schedule also helps me to remember to do things for me. For example:

Monday

  • Shower
  • Workout
  • Dress/Makeup
  • Groceries
  • Take a nap
  • Call {insert relative name}

Tuesday

  • Shower
  • Workout
  • Dress/Makeup
  • Pay Bill
  • Crochet

It’s little reminders to do important things, but to also do things for me. Taking a shower may seem hard, but once you’re in, it feels nice to be scalded by the hot water. I don’t particularly like working out, but it helps manage stress and hormones.

Putting on a dress and makeup really does change the way you feel about yourself. Pajamas may be comfy, but they leave you in a certain type of frumpy mood.

I also make sure to schedule some time for me in. Whether I need a nap, or crochet, or read, or whatever. I make time for me to do something relaxing.

My Weekly Cleaning Schedule

Starting out, I had to get in a regular cleaning schedule. If I’m being honest, I’m not quite there, but I’m getting there. But I was able to break up my week to get the house cleaned without overwhelming myself.

Monday

  • Make the bed. If you can make the bed, you can do anything.
  • Pick up the living room.
  • Clear off the kitchen table. I tend to leave papers and groceries on the table.
  • Clear off the kitchen counters.
  • Get 1 load of laundry done washed.
  • Clean the dishes after dinner.

These are easy tasks that don’t take a lot to do. Then I just build on to it.

Tuesday

  • Make the bed.
  • Wipe down the counters, stove, and tables.
  • Sweep the floor.
  • Clear off bathroom counters.
  • Actually fold the laundry.
  • Clean the dishes after dinner.

And I just keep building until everything is done. Being able to mark it off is also satisfying.

I do things one day at a time, because if I let myself to stop doing things, I’ll stay down. It’s hard and there are times where it feels impossible, but one step at a time and one task at a time, and a whole lot of God is enough to keep me moving.
