God renews our strength. It says so in the Bible. But many times most of us forget that He does this, among many other things, for us. So we go about our days exhausted, beaten down, and discouraged rather than stopping and letting God renew our strength. Or we turn to the world, hoping to find something to numb the pain we’re dealing with. Or to keep us entertained long enough to forget about it. However, God renews our strength and if you want to feel different, to feel new, and not so physically, emotionally, and spiritually exhausted, it’s like to let God renew your strength.
God Renews Our Strength
God promised to never leave us nor forsake us. So when times are hardest and we don’t feel him (we shouldn’t trust our feelings anyway), we may turn our focus off of God. That’s what the enemy wants. However, when we take our eyes off of God then we lose our footing. And we end up many times exhausted in every sense of the word.
Have you ever been so exhausted, not just feeling tired like you haven’t slept, but so much so your bones hurt? Like you’ve felt like you ran a marathon and your muscles, bones, and spirit hurt? That’s the kind of exhaustion I’m talking about. That kind of exhaustion, can be helped with sleep and destressing, but never really goes away. Only God renews our strength to the point of making that horrible and often times debilitating feeling go away.
Where In The Bible Does It Say God Renews Our Strength?
I’m sure you’re wondering now where in the Bible does it say this? Where is this promise? Well, I’m glad you asked, because I am happy to show you!
1. Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31
This is one of my favorite verses when it comes to God renewing our strength. We have to be patient on the Lord, because this is a great promise to those who are weary. This verse promises that we will be strengthened supernaturally. God isn’t going to let us get worn out and falter. Rather, His strength is so great that it is compared to flying with eagles wings!
2. Isaiah 46:4
And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.
Isaiah 46:4
So what does this mean? This means God loves you so very much that he is always going to care for you. Even when you are old, God will still carry, sustain, and rescue you. When times are easy and times are tough, that is how much God loves you. And that should renew your strength. Knowing that God will never, ever, leave you.
3. Matthew 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Matthew 6:33
Sometimes we want things right now. So much so, we forget to lean into God. We expect Him to be like a genie and when we ask we be given it right away. That’s not how it works. We have to chase Him, focus on Him, and lean into Him. Focus on God and He will renew your strength.
4. Romans 15:13
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
Romans 15:13
We need a reason. And if we have hope, we can still go that extra mile. God fills us with hope and peace which can let us know everything will be okay. And knowing that everything is okay often times can be what we need to keep going. It’s the unknown and fear that often wears us out.
5. Psalm 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
Psalm 46:10
God is God. Sometimes we need to slow down and remember He is the Creator, the Beginning and the Last, a Waymaker. And we are not. His will be done, not ours.
6. Isaiah 43:2
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
Isaiah 43:2
God is with us. No matter what, God is with us. Whether we are going through waters, flames, whatever pain, God is with us.
7. Joshua 1:9
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Joshua 1:9
Again, God is with us no matter where we go. No matter the mess we are in, God is with us. We are to be strong and unafraid because if our God is for us, who can stand against us?
8. Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me
Philippians 4:13
This was grandfather’s favorite Bible verse and my husband really likes it to. That’s because we can do all things through Christ. In the Bible, we were asked to heal people, raise the dead, fight the enemy. We can’t do that alone, but through Christ we can. We can get through the hardest storm with the help of God.
9. Philippians 4:6
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Philippians 4:6
When things are hard, and you feel you have no strength, sometimes it isn’t your job to fight. Sometimes it is your job to keep praying and leaving your worries at the Lord’s feet.
10. Deuteronomy 31:6
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Deuteronomy 31:6
Do not be fearful because God goes with us and won’t forsake you. If that doesn’t give you strength, I don’t know what will. God will never leave you, there is no reason to be afraid because God isn’t afraid. And God’s perfect love gets rid of fear.
11. 1 Chronicles 16:11
Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually.
1 Chronicles 16:11
Again, seek the Lord. Prayer, read the Bible, worship, praise, seek Him in all ways. And when you seek Him you will find His strength.
12. 2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7
God doesn’t want us to be afraid. Fear wears us out and saps our energy and will. With God’s love, fear flees. And once fear flees we will have a clear and sound mind.
13. Matthew 11:28
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
This is one of my favorite verses, because it’s the clearest message from God telling us to come to Him when we are wary and exhausted. We can’t renew our wells or strength alone. Only God can do that. Without Him, we can mask symptoms, but we can’t renew ourselves. Life and strength comes from God. Not us.
God Will Renew Your Strength
Step away from the world. You don’t need distractions, you need God. Buckle in, rest, have a snack (It worked for Isaiah), pray and read the Bible. Focus on God. Do what you need to do to feel close to Him. I love singing and listening to worship music. I’ll write letters to Him. Talk to Him. I do try to read the Bible, though I’m not always the best at keeping up with it. Though I’m trying to be better.
When you chase God, He will renew your strength. Think of it like this, if you were ignoring your spouse and doing things to hurt them and made them watch you hurt yourself, then asked them for things… would they do it? That’s not a relationship. That’s abuse. And we can’t treat God that way. We have to turn to God and have a relationship with Him to accept His love.
Things are hard. And I pray they get better for you. And I pray that God renews your strength and spirit and will. That He will give you hope and joy. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, amen!
