Ever wonder what Heaven is really like? I know when we go to children’s church or even church we know it’s going to be wonderful and everyone will be happy and no one will ever be sad again. And that’s true. But it is so much more than that. So what is Heaven really like?
What Is Heaven?
According to the dictionary Heaven is:
“A place regarded in various religions as the abode of God… and the angels…often traditionally depicted as being above the sky.
Dictionary
Heaven is the place where God and His angels dwell and believed where we all go when we die. We will all be judged by God on His throne and then we will dwell with God or go to hell.
I think we all know those things about Heaven, but I don’t think many of us understand all the truly wonderful things in Heaven.
What Is Heaven Really Like?
I think to understand what Heaven will be like we have to go into the Bible and break down all the verses that give us descriptions. But let’s start from the beginning.
1. Heaven Will Be Filled With Joy, Praise, and Peace
In Revelation 7:15-17 it says:
Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.
They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.
For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

It also says in Revelation 21:3-5:
And I heard a great voice out of Heaven, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them; and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them and be their God.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.”
And He that sat upon the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said unto me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”

Those verses give me so much hope and help me look forward to the future during hard times. Everyone will be worshipping. We won’t be hungry, thirsty, longing for these things anymore. We will be sustained by God and He will dry every tear.
God will be with us. No more people will die, there won’t be sorrow, and all pain including the pain of our previous life will be gone. We will be new in God and His perfection, full of joy!
2. Heaven Has Mansions In It
According to John 14:2-3:
“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

Before Jesus died (and rose, He is a living God) He comforted His disciples by making them a promise. He promised them that He would go and prepare a place for them. How amazing is that?
Maybe you don’t have a home, have a small home, or big home…regardless when we go to Heaven, Jesus has prepared a place for us. A special place just for us because He loves us.
3. Heaven Will Be Adorned In Gemstones
According to Revelation 21:9-11:
And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife.
And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;

In Heaven the city of New Jerusalem will be so beautiful and radiate beauty like gemstones. Nothing will compare to the beauty of this new city!
4. Heaven Will Have Streets Of Gold And Pearl Gates
In Revelation 21:21:
“And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.”

We have all heard about the pearly gates of Heaven. How beautiful those gates will be. And the streets of gold. I can’t imagine how perfect and how beauty Heaven will be.
5. Heaven Will Have A City Built For Worship
Hebrews 12:22-23
But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect…

The city of the Living God is going to be a wonderful place. New Jerusalem will be a place of blessing and joy.
Those who are saved will assemble with the angels and we will worship God. Can you imagine? Being able to be with God and worship and have a new intimate relationship with our God in a Holy and blessed place where we won’t know sorrow.
6. Heaven Is Where All People Will Worship God
Speaking of worship… Revelation 7:9-10
Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.
After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.

We will be in front of the throne of God and worship and praise! To be in the presence of our God knowing He hears us. I know sometimes in life now we wonder if God hears us, and we will be in front of Him, His holiness, power, love, and get to worship and praise! It’s so beautiful!
7. Heaven Will Have A Tree Of Life
Read Revelations 2:7
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

There will be a Tree of Life. However, when we think of the Tree of Life we think of the Tree in Genesis. But what is it’s purpose in heaven?
It is widely believed that the Tree of Life is the center of God’s restored creation, the healing of all people and nations. It represents:
- Healing
- Abundance
- And Healing
8. Heaven Will Be Filled With The Light Of God
In Revelations 21:23 it says:
The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.

There will be light all the time in New Jerusalem. Because it comes from God and His glory and holiness! Jesus is the Light unto the world! We can see glimpses of it in the new testament like in Acts 9:3-9.
9. We Will Have New Names In Heaven
The Bible says that we will be given new names in heaven. In Revelation 2:17
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

Remember when Jesus gave 3 of this disciples new names? He gave them new names and with those new names a new identity which would help them fulfill their calling. We will have new names in Heaven that only God and us will know. How beautiful is that?!
10. We Will Be Given Jobs In Heaven
We will serve God in Heaven as mentioned in Revelation 22:3:
And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

I know some of you are panicking. You’re tired of working! I’m tired of working! But don’t fret. Heaven will be a place of rest and peace, but doing nothing would get boring fast. Our curse or punishment I like to call it, will be lifted. Meaning work will no longer be a burden. We will do it joyfully! Serving God to our fullest will be amazing.
11. We Will Have A New Body In Heaven
Our bodies grow weary in the world, but in Heaven we will put on our heavenly bodies as mentioned in 2 Corinthians 5:
For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:
If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.
For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.
Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.
Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord…

We will be filled with God and no longer be groaning. Don’t worry, we won’t be ghosts either. God will give us a perfect body in His image. Because there won’t be disease, pain, etc we won’t have the same brittle and broken bodies we have in this broken world.
What Is Heaven Really Like? Heaven Will Be Unbelievable!
Most of us think Heaven will be boring or just a place where we go. We will have new names! Not only that, but we will have jobs. Heaven is beautiful, full of God’s glory, and we will finally have that intimate relationship that we all have ever wanted. There won’t be anymore pain or sorrow. I can’t fully imagine it, but I know it will be glorious beyond imagination.
